What Is Apple Intelligence?
Apple Intelligence is Apple's AI layer, built into iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. It launched in late 2024 and has expanded across Apple's product line. The pitch is AI that is useful, private, and seamlessly integrated into the operating system.
The feature set is broad but shallow. Writing Tools proofread, rewrite, and summarize text across every app. Image Playground generates images in styles like animation and illustration. Genmoji creates custom emoji. Clean Up removes distracting objects from photos. Live Translation works in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone. Smart Reply drafts email responses in Mail. Priority Notifications surface what matters. Siri has been upgraded with the ability to type, understand onscreen context, draw on personal knowledge, and take action across apps (some of these features are still in development).
The privacy model is genuine. Most processing happens on-device. When cloud processing is needed, Private Cloud Compute runs on Apple silicon servers with cryptographic verification that data is not retained. For users who care about privacy, this is meaningful.
Where Apple Intelligence stops is at the boundary of Apple's ecosystem. It only works on Apple devices. It does not host websites, run scheduled tasks, connect to Linear or Notion, or work via SMS or Telegram. It makes your Apple experience smarter. It does not give you a computer that works for you independently.
What Is Zo?
