The personal computer allowed anyone to develop software for any reason. This led to inventive ways for everyone to gather, process, produce, and share more information than was previously possible. It directly enabled more educated societies and higher standards of living.
Before the internet, apps ran on your computer and stored data on that same device. The internet flipped this. Web software runs on remote servers and everyone's data is saved in giant databases owned by a few companies.
This data can be monetized in a myriad of ways, so companies build walls and moats around it. The companies with the biggest databases, highest walls, and widest moats win. This is the internet we all live with today.
But technology is changing, and things don't have to remain this way. Now, everyone can have their own home on the internet. Private spaces where you're allowed to construct anything you want, where you can interact with other people & businesses without middlemen.
The cloud is the most evolved form of computing; it's elastic, available, efficient, secure, and globally connected. But until recently only developers and companies could take advantage of it. Now, we need to make cloud-computing accessible to everyone.
